Third-party testing: what it proves and what it does not

"Third-party tested" is one of the most common trust signals in supplements, and one of the least specific.

What testing can establish

Identity — that the ingredient is what the label says. Purity — that contaminants are below defined limits. Potency — that the amount present matches the amount declared.

These are worth having. They are the difference between a label and a fact.

What it does not establish

That the product does anything. Testing verifies composition, not effect. A batch can be immaculately tested and still have no clinical evidence behind it.

The questions that matter

Tested by whom? For what, specifically? Per batch, or once, years ago? And can you see the certificate of analysis, or just a badge?

Our position

We would rather publish batch documentation than a logo. Where we can evidence testing for a specific finished product, we will show it. Where we cannot yet, we say so instead of implying otherwise. That is less impressive and more useful.
