How to assess a supplement brand

You cannot verify a supplement by looking at it. You can, however, learn a lot from how a company communicates.

Does it name the exact compound?

Vagueness at this level is rarely accidental.

Does it publish amounts per serving?

And are they easy to find, or buried?

Does it distinguish mechanism from outcome?

A brand explaining what a molecule does in cells is educating you. A brand implying that therefore its product will change how you feel is doing something else.

Does it acknowledge uncertainty anywhere?

Every honest company in a developing field has things it does not know. A site with no uncertainty on it has been edited to remove it.

Does it tell you who should not take it?

Contraindications are commercially inconvenient. Their presence is a good sign.

Can you get the full detail before buying?

Ingredients, warnings, storage. If you have to buy the product to find out what is in it, that is backwards.
